Cemetery
There comes a time in every person's life when they must pass into the loving arms of God. Those of us who remain are left to mourn the passing of those who have gone before us.
When we are baptized, we are brought to a sacred place, a Catholic Church, and baptized into the mystery of Christ’s death and resurrection – thus giving us the promise of eternal life. When one of our loved ones dies, we may take them to the sacred grounds of a Catholic cemetery while they await the resurrection of the dead and the promise of eternal life.
Since death is a natural part of life, it is only fitting that the Catholic Church be present at the time of death. Death, as seen through the eyes of a Christian, is not the end; it is simply a natural passageway to a changed life with God. Burial in a Catholic cemetery is a statement of continued belief in that everlasting life, even in death.
Cemeteries hold the earthly remains of our family members and friends who have shared their love, fellowship and faith with us. Although a grave evokes sadness, a grave in a Catholic cemetery is also a sign of hope in God and His promise of everlasting life.
St. Paul Catholic Cemetery Grounds Maintenance Policies
The St. Paul Catholic Cemetery exists to provide a dignified and Christian place of final rest for our faithful departed. The cemetery is maintained by cemetery employees and approved volunteers, with general oversight and guidance provided by the St. Paul Cemetery Board, the pastor, and/or the Catholic Diocese of Toledo. Compliance with the simple policies listed will ensure that the grounds can be properly maintained to perpetuate the memory of our loved ones in a proper setting.
One grave monument set on a proper concrete footer is permitted to be placed at each grave site. One urn—either moveable or in-ground, with its top installed at or below grade—is also permitted at each grave site. Any moveable floral urn and/or any additional markers, plaques, or other decorative objects must be attached to or placed upon the monument or its footer. Other than the single grave monument or in-ground floral urn, nothing else is permitted to be placed on or in the cemetery grounds at a grave site to allow for efficient and safe grass mowing and trimming.
The periods of March 15 through March 31 and October 15 through October 31 each year are designated as cemetery clean-up days. During these time periods, all decorations will be removed and discarded by cemetery employees or approved volunteers to prepare for lawn maintenance or the winter season.
St. Paul Catholic Cemetery reserves the right to remove without notice any ornaments, flowers, decorations, artifacts, or objects from any grave site that are considered to be unsightly, unsafe, or inappropriate for placement within the cemetery.
Any questions or concerns regarding these policies should be directed to a cemetery employee. If satisfaction is not received after speaking with the employee, the question or concern may be directed to the president of the Cemetery Board and/or the pastor.
